Road Trippin' is a podcast hosted by former NBA champions Richard Jefferson and Channing Frye, along with sports reporter Allie Clifton, who currently covers the Los Angeles Lakers. The podcast offers an inside look at the NBA and features candid conversations with current and former athletes and personalities from various sports. With more than 160,000 followers on X, Instagram and TikTok, plus a large following on YouTube, the podcast has gained some attention since it's inception in 2016.
In 2022, they ended their contract with LeBron James' company, Uninterrupted, and signed with Blue Wire to handle the video/audio production, ad partnerships, socials as well as a complete rebrand. Despite them coming from a legitimate media production company, they felt their brand was still lacking. They planned on keeping the name of the podcast, as it already had quite the following, but the old look was dark-themed, with a amateur-looking script type as their sole logo - it wasn't quite their vibe. They really didn't offer much direction, so it was up to us to develop this brand from scratch.
I'm really proud of how it turned out, as we focused on the road trip aspect of their podcast name. We also wanted to portray this, not as a Cleveland Cavaliers podcast, but a nation-wide NBA podcast. These three hosts are almost always on the road separately and podcasting together remotely, so covering that aspect of representing all teams from coast to coast was vital. We leaned into the US highway system and the many interstate signs one would read on a cross-country road trip, colored with the red, white and blue colors of the NBA logo. We mixed in some nostalgic elements as well, such as using Polaroid-type photo editing, and we gained a lot of inspiration from old car manuals one would find in a glove box in the ol' family station wagon. Overall, this brand is still growing strong, check out some behind the scenes and final results below:
